Swimming Pool Filters for In Ground Pools

There are three popular methods of filteration - Sand, Cartridge, and Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.).

Pro™ Series Top-Mount Sand Filters |

Sand is the oldest and most popular method of filtration. High-rate sand filters use a special filter sand, normally .45 to .55 mm (also known as pool grade #20 silica sand), because it has sharp edges that separate particles, allowing filtration to take place. They operate on the basis of "depth" filtration where dirt is driven through the sand bed and trapped in the spaces between the sand particles. The sand can be cleaned by backwashing which involves reversing water flow through the filter to the "waste" line. Sand Filters trap debris as small as 20 to 40 microns. |

The Hayward SwimClear large capacity cartridge filter series traps debris as small as 10 to 15 microns utilizing a cluster of four reusable cartridges for extra-long cleaning cycles. Uses high-quality polyester cartridge elements for extra dirt-holding capacity, easy cleaning, and quick replacement. |

Pro-Grid™ Vertical Grid DE Filters |

Diatomaceous earth is the fossilized exoskeletons of tiny diatoms. They are used to coat "grids" in the filter housing and act as tiny sieves allowing for the removal of debris as small as 5 microns. Once the pressure rises, the filter is backwashed just like a sand filter and then "recharged" with more DE powder. Pro-Grid vertical grid DE filters provide superior water clarity, efficient flow and large cleaning capacity for pools and spas of all types and sizes. |
